QUALIFICATIONS FOR AWARDS

GACTE Teacher of the Year

 

Purpose:  To recognize teachers who are providing outstanding career and technical education programs for youth and/or adults in their respective fields and communities. Recipients of this award must have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs that are serving to improve and promote career and technical education

Eligibility:  Individual members who are currently employed as full-time classroom/laboratory teachers in a career and technical education program other than at the baccalaureate level are eligible recipients for this award. Nominees must be classroom/laboratory teachers at the time of selection. Contributions and achievements on which the nomination is based should have been within the past ten years.  The nominee must be a member of GACTE/ACTE at the time of nomination.

 

Outstanding New Career and Technical Teacher

 

Purpose:  This award is meant to encourage new teachers to remain in the profession.  Recipients of this award must have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs and have shown a professional commitment early in their careers.

Eligibility:  Individuals who are currently employed as full-time classroom/laboratory teachers in a career and technical education program other than the baccalaureate level are eligible for this award.  Nominees must have taught for a minimum of three but not more than five years.  (Applicants may be in their sixth year of teaching at the time of the application.)  Age is not a determining factor.  (Candidates must be new to the teaching profession, not just new to career and technical education.) 

The nominee must be a member of GACTE/ACTE at the time of nomination.

 

 

Outstanding Career and Technical Educator

 

Purpose:  To recognize career and technical educators, other than full-time classroom/laboratory teachers, who have recently provided or currently are providing significant contributions to professional associations and career and technical education programs for youth and/or adults in their fields, communities and/or states.  Recipients of this award must have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs; and/or improvement, promotion, research or development of programs of career and technical education.

Eligibility:  Individuals who are currently employed as full-time baccalaureate career and technical teacher educators, administrators, school guidance counselors, program specialists and other individuals involved in career and technical education other than full-time classroom/laboratory teachers are eligible recipients for this award.  The nominee must be a member of GACTE/ACTE at the time of nomination.

 

 

Outstanding Teacher in Community Service

 

Purpose:  To recognize teachers with significant accomplishments and outstanding leadership in programs and activities that promote community involvement. Recipients of this award must have made significant contributions toward training, motivating, and inspiring their peers and students to become involved in programs and projects that benefit their communities.

Eligibility:  Individual members who are currently employed as full-time classroom/laboratory teachers in a career and technical education program are eligible recipients for this award. Nominees must be classroom/laboratory teachers at the time of nomination and winner must be a classroom/laboratory teacher at the time of award presentation. Contributions and achievements on which the nomination is based should have been made within the past five years.

The nominee must be a member of GACTE/ACTE at the time of nomination.
 

Career Guidance
Purpose: To recognize school counselors and career development professionals who are currently making significant contributions in career and technical education programs in their communities and/or states. Recipients of this award must have made significant contributions to advocate, educate and communicate the value of CTAE as a viable career option to a variety of audiences, including students and adults. Recipient must also demonstrate exemplary efforts in helping students and/or adults evaluate their abilities, interests and talents that encourage them to develop academic and career goals aligned with career and technical education.
 
Eligibility: Individuals should be currently employed as full-time baccalaureate school counselors and/or career development professionals involved in career and technical education. A nominee should have been involved in Association for Career and Technical Education activities at the state, regional and/or national levels, and must have been a member of ACTE/GACTE at the time of nomination.

GACTE Awards Program

The GACTE Awards Program seeks to promote excellence in career and technical education by recognizing individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the field. GACTE recognizes these outstanding educators, legislators, and leaders at their Annual Conference.

GACTE AWARDS COMMITTEE INFORMATION
  • GACTE Awards Chair is appointed by the GACTE President
  • Committee members are all affiliate VPs or their designated affiliate representatives
  • Committee members will be judges

AFFILIATE PROCEDURES
1.     Each affiliate/division of GACTE should have an awards committee, headed by an
awards chairperson.
The make-up of the committee should be determined by the
affiliate/division.
The committee within each affiliate/division should be responsible
for selecting a candidate to represent the affiliate/division in GACTE for each of the awards:
       a.     Teacher of the Year
       b.     Outstanding Educator
       c.      Outstanding Teacher in Community Service 
       d.     Outstanding New Teacher
e.   Career Guidance

         2.      All application packets must be submitted electronically to the affiliate awards chair for the
respective division no later than April 1 of the awards year. It is
requested that each affiliate/division submit 1 packet for each award including
documentation, photos, and letters of recommendation. 


3. The affiliate awards chair is responsible for making sure all winners are qualified as specified in the GACTE Qualifications for Awards. Membership requirements should be confirmed with ACTE prior to submitting application packet to GACTE.
4. The Qualifications for Awards, Award Application Form, Awards Procedures/Deadlines,
and contact information for each affiliate representative on the GACTE Awards Committee
is posted on the GACTE website at www.gacte.org.
5. Only one nominee from each affiliate may compete at the GACTE level for each award.




6. Nominees must be an ACTE/GACTE member at the time of the nomination.
7. Winners of each GACTE award are expected to move to the next level of competition
according to the ACTE Guidelines—Region level competition. Winners should complete documentation as required and attend the Region 2 Conference.
Details of Region competition and conference will be given to award winners after summer conference.
GACTE PROCEDURES

1. The GACTE Awards Committee Member representing each division must submit a completed application packet for each affiliate winner by e-mail to the GACTE Awards Chair, Tonja Tift, ttift@tiftschools.com. The application packagemust be a single PDF file including the scanned letters of recommendation. Photographs should be emailed as an attachment. All packets must be received electronically or May 1 in order for nominees to be considered for GACTE awards. This deadline will be strictly enforced.

2. Each GACTE Awards Committee Member will receive packets to evaluate for each award. The evaluation form has been adapted from the one used by the National Awards Committee and is located on the GACTE website at www.gacte.org

3. Nominees will be evaluated by GACTE Awards Committee Member representing each division. The completed evaluation results must be e-mailed to GACTE Awards Chair, Tonja Tift, ttift@tiftschools.com, no later than ten days after receipt.

4. Winners will be recognized at the annual GACTE Conference in July.
 

ACTE PROCEDURES

1. The GACTE Awards Chair will communicate each GACTE award winner the requirements for complete requirements for moving to the next level of competition according to ACTE guidelines.

2. ACTE nomination packets with original signatures, photos, electronic copies of the nomination packets including letters of recommendation and one video (VHS or CD) for each nominee should be sent directly to the Region II Awards Chair according to the deadline and regulations specified at www.acteonline.org.

3. In the event a GACTE award winner is unable to advance in region competition, the 2nd place competitor will represent Georgia in region competition.
